(PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLA) — Food insecurity is increasingly becoming a problem across the country and is prevalent in Palm Beach County, according to the Urban League of Palm Beach County.
Food drives were held Saturday by The Urban League of Palm Beach County in West Palm Beach, Belle Glade, and Delray Beach in an effort to put food on the table for 100,000 families.
Our partners at WPTV have hosted several food drives over the last few weeks and raised nearly $48,000 for families in need, but the statistics are still grim.
The Urban League of Palm Beach County projects that 1 in 6 residents are still struggling to put food on the table, and 1 in 5 children in Palm Beach County will go to bed hungry tonight.
The USDA reports both children and adults experience hunger in 7.6% of households with children, which comes to 2.9 million households in the US.
