Florida’s insurance commissioner sued in new lawsuit

The insurance crisis continues to negatively effect homeowners in Florida.  A new lawsuit has been filed in Leon County by the Restoration Association of Florida (RAF) and a contractor, Air Quality Assessors.

The suit was filed in an attempt to reverse a newly enacted policy change that violated public policy and Florida’s Homeowner Claims Bill of Rights.

WPTV reports that this change would allow insurance agencies, such as American Integrity Insurance Company of Florida and Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Company, to restrict homeowners’ rights regarding repair work.

As of now, the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation has not responded to questions concerning the lawsuit.

Florida lawmakers will meet in a special session on Monday in an effort to rein in skyrocketing premiums and policy cancellations for homeowners.
