BONITA SPRINGS, FL–
Police say that while they were in the process of arresting a 24-year-old woman for reckless driving, she took a selfie.
The incident occurred Sunday around 12:30 a.m.
Authorities say they first noticed the driver Shelby Peters after she blew through the hurricane relief checkpoint on Hickory Boulevard and Kings Kew at a high rate of speed.
Officials say she continued driving down Hickory Blvd before making a U-turn and speeding back through the checkpoint.
A South District Sergeant then got into his police cruiser and went after Peters to conduct a traffic stop.
When the sergeant approached Peters, Peters reportedly took a selfie and then fled the scene.
An officer with the Jacksonville Police Department later located Peters and conducted a traffic stop.
Peters was charged with two counts of fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence, and curfew violation.
