A 31-year-old Florida man is behind bars after he reportedly stabbed his fiancée multiple times because she refused to return her engagement ring.

Armando Lagares II was taken into custody on Dec. 18th for the event that occurred on Dec. 17th.

Authorities say Lagares II and the 23-year-old victim had reportedly been arguing all day about breaking up and the woman returning the engagement ring to him.

At some point, Lagares grabbed a kitchen knife and proceeded to stab the victim 8 times in the abdomen.

She was taken to an area hospital where she required surgery because of injuries to her lungs and colon.

Lagares was taken into custody about 18 hours after the incident but told police that he did not stab his fiancée and that he was actually coming to her aid after she called him for help.

Authorities eventually got a warrant to search Lagares phone after telling a judge they believe that calls and text messages from the phone would help them to determine what happened in the case.

Lagares now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving great bodily harm and possession of synthetic marijuana.
