A Florida woman has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars for the shooting death of a teen.
The incident occurred at the Ensley trailer park in Pensacola in 2019.
16-year-old Dakota Edward Kersey was found dead on Dec. 18, 2019, at a residence in the 9700 block of Grace Drive. Investigators say the victim was found lying on his back with a single gunshot wound to his head.
He was taken to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital where he was pronounced braindead. He was eventually taken off of the ventilator on Dec. 28th.
After ruling out suicide, authorities began searching the area for clues. They then found a black Ford Mustang nearby with several suspicion items inside.
According to the report, authorities found a pistol, multiple types of bullets, marijuana, cocaine, 23 $100 bills ,a driver’s license belonging to 20-year-old Nealy Ard, and a purse in the driver’s seat with what appeared to be blood inside.
Investigators eventually identified Ard as the suspect after finding that the gun used to kill Kersey was the one found in the vehicle.
Ard has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, grand theft of a firearm, contributing to the delinquency of a child, knowingly giving false information to a law enforcement officer, possession of drug equipment, three counts of destroying evidence and five counts of possession of drugs with the intent to sell, manufacture and distribute.
She was sentenced to 20 years behind bars on Monday but will also be required to serve 10 years of probation following her prison term.
