A Palm Beach County woman was sentenced to thirty-five years behind bars Tuesday for stabbing her disabled husband to death.
Joan Burke of Palm Springs pled guilty to second-degree murder for the death of 62-year-old Melvin Weller.
Weller’s stepson contacted police after he arrived at the home along Anna Lane back and February and found Weller lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen.
Burke was found lying in bed when authorities arrived.
Officials say she was alert but remained silent.
She was eventually identified as a suspect and taken into custody.
An autopsy revealed that Burke reportedly stabbed the victim more than 140 times and fractured his skull with a meat cleaver.
Burke will receive a credit for the 130 days she already spent in jail.
