Port St. Lucie police are reporting at a 32-year-old woman and a 4-year-old child were found dead inside of a hotel room in an apparent murder-suicide.

The incident was reported at the TownePlace Suites at Marriott, located at 10460 Southwest Village Parkway, on Jan. 19th.

Authorities say the woman and the child who are from Miami, were traveling with a man and checked into the hotel in Port St. Lucie.

The man told investigators that he went to get breakfast but when he returned, he found that he’d been locked out of the room and the woman was not answering.

Around 12:00 p.m. hotel staff contacted the police.

When authorities arrived, they also did not get a response from the woman. They then tried to break into the room and found that the inside security lock had been engaged.

They also found that a sofa and a refrigerator had been moved in front of the door.

Authorities were eventually able to get into the room and found the 4-year-old had been shot twice and the woman was shot once.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say they believe the woman shot the child before turning the gun on herself.

“This is an incredibly tragic event and on behalf of the men and women of the Port St. Lucie Police Department, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victims,” said Port St. Lucie Police Chief John Bolduc in a news release.

The victim’s names have not been released at this time. Authorities also reported that they are unaware of a motive.
