(KISSIMMEE, FL) –A 17-year-old Florida boy has been arrested for the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old girl.
The incident occurred on Thursday at the Kensington Apartments as the victim was leaving for school.
Officials say they arrived to the apartment around 6:30 a.m. to find the victim suffering from life-threatening injuries.
She was rushed to an area hospital where she later died.
On the day of the death, authorities announced that they had a “person of interest” in mind and that the person lived in the apartment complex.
After gathering enough evidence authorities approached the suspect identified as Anas Muhammad about the stabbing.
Officials say Muhammad eventually confessed when confronted by the evidence and stated that he’d been having thoughts of killing someone for a long time.
“It had been over a period of time that he had these thoughts,” Kissimmee Police Deputy Chief Betty Holland said. “Unfortunately he was able to carry them out.”
Muhammad has since been booked into a juvenile detention center, where he is being held without bond.
Authorities say Muhammad and the victim were “estranged friends,” but it is unclear why they were estranged.
