HARDEE COUNTY, FL– A 13-year-old girl was transported to an area hospital after she was attacked by an alligator.
The incident occurred on Sunday around 2:30 p.m. near the ” Gardner Boat Ramp in Zolfo Springs,” authorities said.
“The FWC responded to the scene and a 13-year-old female was transported to the hospital with injuries but is stable,” officials said.
Officials did not report what the teen was doing at the time she was bitten but the ramp is near a popular spot for kayaking, canoeing, and rafting.
A trapper has been called to the area and will attempt to locate the animal.
If the alligator is large it will likely be killed, but if it is smaller, then it will be relocated to a less-populated area.
