Family members, students, and fellow employees honored a tennis coach and physical education teacher after she was fatally struck by a vehicle in the school parking lot.
Pasco County Fire Rescue officials say 28- year-old Ciara McKeon was walking through the parking lot of Anclote High School around 7:00 am when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old.
Authorities say McKeon was stuck under the vehicle for some time until fire rescue personnel were able to free her.
McKeon was then rushed to an area hospital as a “trauma alert,” but later died.
Officials reported that they believed McKeon was a pedestrian at first, but then realized that she was a teacher at the school.
The incident is still under investigation.
Several people came together on Saturday to honor McKeon by planting a memorial garden.
It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of Coach McKeon. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the impact that she had on all of our lives. Please keep the McKeon family and Anclote community in your thoughts and prayers. pic.twitter.com/2Kd7wM73vm
