A high school teacher has been arrested after she allegedly hid a missing teen in her home.
Deputies with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old teacher Kelly Simpson on Wednesday after locating the teen.
Officials say the teen’s parents reported him missing on August 12th but had information that he may have been in Simpson’s custody.
When officials went to Simpson’s home, they located the teen.
Simpson reportedly picked the teen up from an unknown location and let him hide out in her home despite knowing that he had been reported missing.
She is now facing charges for interfering with the custody of a minor.
Simpson’s bond was set at $5,000.
Charlotte High School has also spoken out about the incident.
According to their statement, Simpson has been placed on administrative leave.
“Charlotte County Public Schools takes an incident such as this very seriously,” the statement said. “The safety, protection, and well-being of our students are a top priority.”
