
A Daytona Beach Police officer who was shot in the head while on patrol has died.
The police department announced the death of Officer Jason Raynor on Tuesday in a tweet:
“Officer Jason Raynor passed away at 8:09 this evening (August 17, 2021) at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach with his family at his side,” the Daytona Beach Police Department announced on Twitter.
Reynor was shot in the head on June 23rd while questioning a resident who was sitting in a car in the parking lot of an apartment complex. He was then rushed to Halifax Health Medical Center where he was treated for 55 days before his passing.
Authorities say Reynor was conducting extra surveillance in the area due to a citizen complain of crime.
The suspect Othal Wallace, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm of a law enforcement officer. He is being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
