A Broward County man says that he intentionally ran into the back of a state trooper’s vehicle because he wanted to go to jail.
The incident occurred in the northbound lanes of I-95 just south of Interstate 595 before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Officials say the trooper was parked with his lights on in the right lane of a construction zone when the incident occurred.
25-year-old Tate Alexander Turner reportedly ignored all merge and construction signs and struck the trooper’s vehicle from the back.
When the trooper spoke to Turner, Turner ” stated he intentionally struck the patrol vehicle so he could be taken to jail,” the report said.
The suspect then went on to say “He stated he wanted to go to jail because he, ‘felt like he was already in jail,'” but would not elaborate.
The trooper says Turner did not appear to be under the influence denied consuming alcohol or drugs.
Turner was taken to the Broward jail where he was being held without bond.
The trooper was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
