Florida Man Hiding in Pond Busted after Coming up for Air

It happens all the time in action movies: Someone being pursued by authorities successfully avoids capture by jumping into a pond or lake and hides underwater until the danger has passed.

In real life, however, the stunt doesn’t always work so well — especially when the runner needs air to stay alive.

A Florida man found this out the hard way last week, authorities say. Daniel Christopher Booth, 36, was wanted in Baker County for dealing methamphetamine, the Suwanee County Sheriff’s Office reports.

When a deputy attempted to arrest Booth, he took off on foot and dove into a nearby pond.

The ploy worked at first — until Booth couldn’t hold his breath any longer. When he came up for air, deputies spotted him and took him into custody, his arrest report indicates.

“Now we can only assume that Mr. Booth has seen one too many action movies,” sheriff’s officials posted on Facebook. “He thought he could hide from the K9 teams, from Suwannee and Mayo, by hiding under the water in a pond.”

Among the people who commented on the post, which included the hashtag “NotRambo,” was one user who wrote, “Clearly he forgot to grab a bamboo shoot to breathe through while he waited. He needs to watch more cartoons.”
