LAKE COUNTY, FL– A 59-year-old man has been arrested after he fatally shot another man who confronted him for throwing a beer can at him.
The incident occurred Friday in Sorrento.
Investigators say the suspect, Wallace Kirkland, was standing along the road near Quaker Ridge Avenue with two other friends when a man driving an off-road vehicle drove by.
As the man drove by, Kirkland threw a beer can at the driver.
Witnesses who described the man as “physically smaller” got out of the vehicle, yelled something at Kirkland, and began walking toward him. That’s when they heard a gun go off.
The driver then ran back to his vehicle and started to drive away before he lost consciousness.
The driver was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Investigators learned that Kirkland was the one who shot the victim.
He was taken into custody on manslaughter and aggravated battery with a firearm charges.
