(TAMPA, Florida)– A Naples man has been arrested for the beating death of his puppy.
Detectives of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Animal Cruelty Investigations Alliance detained 23-year-old Robert William Garon after he beat his 5-month-old Goldendoodle named Buzz Lightyear to death.
Garon now faces charges of cruelty to animals causing cruel death, pain, or suffering in connection with the beating death.
Investigators with the Domestic Animal Services learned that Garon and his girlfriend took the injured puppy to an emergency vet clinic on July 29, and the pup later passed away.
Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rombosk said, “This is one of the worst cases of animal abuse we’ve seen,” and “No animal should ever have to suffer such a death.”
The Collier County Domestic Animal Services and Humane Society Naples was instrumental during the investigation when it began on August 2nd, according to the sheriff.
Veterinarians performed a necropsy on Buzz at the Humane Society Naples and said, “This dog’s death was caused by non-accidental, blunt force trauma to the head and body with secondary internal hemorrhage. I believe he suffered significantly from his injuries before death.”
Garon was determined to be the cause of the puppy’s death by detectives and he will be seen in court on September 6th.
