A Florida man has been arrested after he allegedly tried to set a child on fire.

The incident was reported at a Love’s truck stop in Waterloo, New York on Tuesday.

Seneca County Sheriff’s Office deputies say they were called to the area due to the report of several small fires.

When authorities arrived, they discovered Jamie Avery Jr of West Palm Beach, Florida and the second suspect trying to start a fire inside a building.

They also found the suspects in possession of a 1-year-old covered in flammable fluid.

Investigators say the suspects poured a flammable liquid on the 1-year-old and attempted to set the child on fire but, it did not work.

While investigating that incident, authorities also noticed a 4-year-old with obvious head injures alone in the cab of a tractor-trailer.

Both children were taken to Geneva General Hospital for treatment and are expected to make full recoveries.

Avery now faces charges of attempted aggravated murder, second-degree attempted murder, second-degree arson, attempted second-degree arson and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Charges against the second suspect are currently pending.

Authorities are still investigating the situation involving the 4-year-old.
