A Fort Pierce area man has been arrested after he allegedly kidnapped a teen that he met through a virtual reality program.

25-year-old Christopher Evans was taken into custody in Cheyenne, Wyoming earlier this week.

Police in Roosevelt City, Utah say that the teen was reported missing on March 8th.

During the investigation, authorities found that the teen had been communicating with Evans via Oculus for sometime before her disappearance.

“Investigators have determined [the victim] communicated with Evans using Oculus, a Meta program, for approximately one month,” the Roosevelt City Police Department said. “This is one of the first instances of a case involving Oculus in the nation.”

When authorities tracked down Evans, they found the teen was being hidden in the back of a semitruck in his possession.

Evans was taken into custody and is being held at the Laramie County Jail in Wyoming.

Officials say the teen appears to be in “good health.”

Evans is expected to face charges for kidnapping and harboring a runaway.
