A Loxahatchee man who is accused of shooting another man to death told investigators that “witches” made him do it.
The incident occurred on Tuesday near State Road 80, just west of Connors Highway.
Witnesses told police that they were driving to back from purchasing marijuana in Belle Glade when 23-year-old Kirkland Evan Lehto, who was one of four people in the vehicle, suddenly pulled out a gun and shot a person in the backseat.
According to the report, when asked why he shot the person in the backseat, Lehto replied “The voices, the witches told me to do it.”
Lehto then fired several more rounds out of the window.
The witnesses then began driving towards a hospital but then decided to pull over and call police.
When police arrived they found a tan gun on the dashboard of the truck and shell casings on it’s floor board.
Lehto told authorities that he heard loud gun fire and voices in his head but he nor anyone else in the truck fired a weapon. He also told police that during the shooting he blacked out due to an epileptic seizure.
When asked how the gun ended up on the dashboard, Lehto said at one point he pulled the gun out of his pocket and placed it there.
He has since been arrested and is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of first-degree murder with a firearm and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
