Florida Highway Trooper recovering after being shot

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL– A Florida Highway and Patrol Trooper is recovering after he was shot during a traffic incident on Saturday.
According to the report, the trooper was patrolling I-75 when he came across two men who were reportedly stealing from a pickup truck.
When the suspects noticed the trooper they fled the area with the trooper following behind.
At some point during the police chase, the suspect opened fire on the trooper but struck a tanker truck.
Authorities performed a PIT maneuver and were able to ground the vehicle.
Both suspects got out of the vehicle but only one of them surrendered.
38-year-old Yoandy Mora Perez of Hialeah was taken into custody while a second suspect was fatally shot by police after he opened fire on them.
One trooper was airlifted with non-life-threatening injuries.
