TALLAHASSEE, FL– After months of speculation, Governor Ron DeSantis has officially announced his run for the presidency.
The announcement came on Wednesday, just hours after he filed documentation with the Federal Elections Committee and during a conversation on Twitter with CEO Elon Musk.
The conversation was moderated by tech entrepreneur David Sacks.
Governor DeSantis is expected to be a top contender for the Republican nomination and is expected to go head-to-head with Donald Trump.
Some top Florida officials such as House Speaker Paul Renner and Sen. President Kathleen Passidomo, are already endorsing Ron DeSantis.
“We need a leader like Gov. DeSantis who has the courage of his convictions and will stand against the liberal economic agenda that is ruining our economy and the Hollywood social scheme that is trying to shorten childhood and replace the role of parents,” Passidomo said after the governor took the stage in Broward County. “I believe he is the right leader at the right time.”
Former President Trump, was also been endorsed by several Florida congressional leaders when he made his announcement in November.
If DeSantis does not gain the Republican nomination, he will still be able to remain the Governor of Florida due to a new law.
