Officials in Daytona Beach are reporting that they rescued a teenage girl in an apparent crisis.

The Flagler County sheriff’s office say they received a call from a concerned father on Sunday after her daughter threatened to harm herself and then left the home.

The teen was later found standing on the outside of a railing of an overpass near Palm Coast Parkway and I-95 .

Deputies spoke with the teen for several hours while holding her hand and at one point handcuffed the 17-year-old to the railing to secure her.

A fire truck was then called to the area to help bring the teen to the ground.

“This is an outstanding rescue by all agencies involved,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “The quick response and combined efforts of FCSO deputies, Crisis Negotiations, Communications Center, Fire Rescue, and the deputies holding the juvenile’s hand saved a life today. Their training in de-escalation techniques and being able to talk to someone who’s threatening to take their life is remarkable. I commend all the men and women who stepped up for this child’s life today. Someone’s daughter was saved on Father’s Day, and I hope she receives the help she needs.”

The teen has since been Baker Act and transported to Halifax for further medical evaluations.
