A St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputy is recovering after he was stabbed in the neck while responding to the scene of a crash.

The incident occurred Wednesday night.

Officials say 21-year-old Leigha Michelle Day crashed her vehicle and it rolled down an embankment.

When the deputy identified as Deputy Cody Colangelo, went to make contact with Day, she suddenly stabbed him in the neck and ran off.

Deputy Colangelo put pressure on his wound and followed Day.

She was eventually taken into custody and charged with a charge of attempted first-degree pre-meditated murder.
