A 23-year-old woman was sent to the hospital after a Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputy accidentally ran her over.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at St. Pete Beach.
Authorities say the woman was lying on her back in the sand when the deputy, 58-year-old Todd Brien, received a 911 call.
Deputy Brien then jumped into his police issued cruiser and began driving.
Authorities say Brien did not see the woman and drove over her right side and mid to upper back area.
The woman was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Reports state that Brien was on beach patrol before the call came in.
