A 7-year-old Florida boy is lucky to be alive after he was accidently dumped into the back of a garbage truck while hiding in a trashcan.

The incident was reported in Hillsborough County, Tampa.

Authorities say the child was playing in his grandmother’s yard when he decided to climb into her trashcan and hide.

Moments later, a garbage truck arrived in the neighborhood and started dumping the trashcans into the back of the truck.

The sanitation worker identified as Waldo Fidele, thankfully happened to be watching the truck’s surveillance camera and noticed the boy among the trash.

Fidele says when he noticed the child, he immediately turned off the truck’s blade and called 911 before rendering assistance to the child.

“I said OK, you’re OK now,” Fidele told the child.

The child’s grandmother spoke to reporters say that she is very thankful for the worker and the camera system:

“I’m very thankful that he was looking at that camera at that time and he acted so fast,” The grandmother Carmen Salazar said. “Because otherwise, he wouldn’t be here.”
