Florida boy fatally shoots himself after finding gun during sleepover

LAKELAND, FL– A 12-year-old boy has died from injuries he sustained after accidentally shooting himself while spending the night at a friend’s house.
The incident occurred on Dec. 16 at a home on Starling Loop.
Authorities say they arrived at the home around 7:00 p.m. to find paramedics working on the young boy.
He was rushed to Tampa General Hospital where he later died.
Officials say the boy and his 13-year-old friend were in the garage of the home when they found a loaded gun inside one of the vehicles.
The victim was said to have handled the gun before it went off.
According to the report, the children were said to have been without adult supervision at the time of the incident.
The victim’s mother told the police that she was unaware that the children would be home alone, while the parents of the 13-year-old reported that they were at work and that their child did not have permission to have guests.
