A Brazilian fisherman survived in the Atlantic Ocean by floating inside a freezer for 11 days after his ship sank, according to The Rio Times.

Romualdo Rodrigues was reportedly on a fishing trip near Northern Brazil early August, when his boat began to break down and flood with water.

Prior to his ship sinking, Rodrigues sought refuge in a freezer for approximately 11 days, when he was later discovered near Suriname.

The fisherman received medical treatment at a hospital and was detained due to not possessing documentation, according to CNN affiliate Record TV.

“I was desperate. I thought my end was coming. But thank God, God gave me one more chance,” Rodrigues told Record TV.
Rodrigues described the moment he was rescued by a group of fishermen: “I heard a noise, and there was a boat on top of the freezer. Only they thought there was no one there. Then they slowly pulled over, my vision was already fading, then I said, ‘My God, the boat.’ I raised my arms and asked for help.”
The lucky fisherman was returned safely to Brazil, according to reports.
