Several of Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies oversaw the eviction of the First Baptist Church of Riviera Beach, Wednesday afternoon, WPTV reports.
Despite the church being a mainstay in the community for 75 years, it will close after it has suffered from multiple, expensive code violations. The church also lost the property that it was built on due to, what the lawyers for the church called, a deceptive loan several years ago.
The church stayed open on a month-to-month lease after defaulting on the loan a decade ago.
The church lost another legal battle last week after years of appeals, leading to the eviction on Wednesday.
The property was sold to a company affiliated with businessman Wayne Huizenga, Jr. in February. The onsite representative for the company did not speak to any future plans for the land.
