(WISE COUNTY, TX)– Authorities in Texas are reporting that they have arrested a 31-year-old FedEx driver for the kidnapping and murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand.
Strand was reported missing on Wednesday after she disappeared from the driveway of her home in Wise County.
While searching for Strand, authorities received a tip from a witness stating that a FedEx driver had been making deliveries at the family’s home around the time the child disappeared.
Officials eventually connected 31-year-old Tanner Lynn Horner to the case. Authorities say Horner, a contracted driver for FedEx, was making deliveries in the area at the time.
Horner eventually admitted to kidnapping Strand and told authorities where they could find her body.
Investigators say Strand’s body was recovered Friday evening northwest of Fort Worth.
According to the report, she had been killed within an hour of her kidnapping.
The child’s cause of death remains under investigation. Her body was transferred to the medical examiner’s office Friday.
Horner has been taken to the Wise County jail on capital murder and aggravated kidnapping charges.
Authorities are still searching for a motive behind the kidnapping.
