A FedEx driver has been rushed to an area hospital after he became pinned under his work truck.

The incident occurred Thursday in the area of Southwest 97th Avenue and 58th Street in Miami-Dade.

Officials say the unidentified delivery driver tried to start the vehicle from the inside but when he was unsuccessful, he went outside of the vehicle and attempted to start it that way.

When the driver was outside of the vehicle, the truck kicked on and rolled forward, pinning the driver underneath.

Witnesses helped firefighters free the man from under the truck and he was then rushed to an area hospital in extreme critical condition.

“At this point we are hopeful he pulls through even though he is in extreme critical condition,” Miami-Dade Police Spokesman Chris Thomas said. “We hope his family has a holiday of thankfulness and not enduring a tragedy.”

The area was briefly shutdown to traffic as the truck was said to have rolled into a intersection. A tow-truck was called to the area to remove the vehicle.
