The White House is planning to send an extra five-million COVID tests to schools every month and Florida has another million tests available now that the FDA has extended the expiration date for a few months on a warehouse stockpile.
Thanks to the emergency extension, hundreds of thousands of old COVID test kits in Florida can still be used even though they are past their expiration date.
The FDA recently granted the state’s request to extend the kits’ expiration date by another three months to March.
The Division of Emergency Management has stockpiled in a warehouse up to one million test kits that originally expired in September due to lack of demand.
The state was able to get an extension that moved the expiration date to the end of December before asking for this most recent extension.
