RIVIERA BEACH, FL– The father of an 11-year-old who was reunited with his daughter after she was taken from a bus stop has been shot to death.
49-year-old Willis Williams Jr. was fatally shot on Saturday while driving to a store along West 18th Street.
His older daughter, Jaquita Williams, says he’d just gotten off of work at McCray’s Backyard BBQ and Seafood when the incident happened.
Williams was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
Williams and his family were in the news just the week before after he was united with his 11-year-old daughter following a weeks-long search.
11-year-old Jaliyah Williams was reported missing on January 6th after she was dropped off at her bus stop but did not make it to school.
According to the report, Williams was found weeks later with her mother, 32-year-old Tyshon Glee, in Georgia.
Jaquita told reporters that Willis was involved in a custody battle with Jaliyah’s mother and was just granted custody of Jaliyah before she disappeared.
Glee was taken into custody and is being held at the Lowndes County Jail for the kidnapping incident.
Just two days after Jaliyah and Willis were reunited, he was shot and killed.
Jaquita says since her sister has returned home, she’s been receiving threatening messages from an unknown number.
“I am worried I’m not gonna lie, because if you will do this to my dad, such a nice person, there is no telling what else you would do,” said Williams.
It is unclear if an arrest has been made or if authorities have identified a suspect.
