Port St. Lucie – Authorities have arrested a 37-year-old father after his son died due to being left for an extended period of time in a hot vehicle.
Port St. Lucie police reported that they were called to a home on Southeast Aires Lane Monday afternoon after the father found his 2-year-old son unresponsive in the vehicle.
The child was rushed to an area hospital where he later died.
James Fidele reported that he arrived home earlier in the day with his son but forgot to take him out of the vehicle.
“This is a very unfortunate and tragic incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this difficult time,” Sgt. John Dellacroce said.
Fidele has since been arrested and charged with leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle, causing great bodily harm.
The Florida Department of Children and Families has also been notified about the case.
