Explosion at Havana Hotel caused by gas leak, 26 dead and 80 injured

An explosion rocked downtown Havana, Cuba on Friday at 4:15 in the afternoon.

According to The Wall Street Journal, at least 26 have been confirmed dead and 80 more were injured with at least 13 still missing.  Among the dead are 14 minors and one pregnant woman.

Rescue workers fear that the death toll will only rise as they continue to dig through the rubble.

“This wasn’t a bomb or an attack, it was a lamentable accident,” stated Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who wasted no time arriving to the scene with other high-ranking Cuban officials in tow.  “Our most heartfelt condolences…to the families and those close to the victims.”
