Rent in South Florida has had a meteoric rise in the past few years.

The rise in cost is forcing many of the community’s elders out on the street.

One member of the retirement community in North Palm Beach spoke with Contact 5 and WPTV about how they have no money, no friends or family, and nowhere to go.

Inflation is at a 40-year-high, and affordable housing is nearly impossible to find in South Florida.

The rent for some renters has risen from $1,300 to $1,500 while their monthly income remains substantially lower.

Those who spoke to news outlets have said that living in their car is becoming more and more common as rent continues to rise.
