Driver who struck 4 students at bus stop in Royal Palm Beach arrested

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office has arrested the 57-year-old driver who struck four students at a bus stop in Royal Palm Beach.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, announced the charges during a press conference with vehicle homicide investigators on Wednesday.

Angel Antonio Lopez was taken into custody on several charges including DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, driving under the influence causing property damage or injury, and reckless driving.

Lopez reportedly lost control of his vehicle on March 22 and drove up onto the sidewalk where the students were waiting for their bus.

Two 15- year-old students were taken to the hospital in critical condition, but died several days later.

Two other students were treated with serious but not fatal injures.  They have since been released from the hospital.

All of the students were said to have attended Royal Palm Beach Community High School.

Reports indicated that investigators believed Lopez who denied medical treatment, may have been under the influence at the time of the crash.
