The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office is investigating 57 year old Angel Antonio Lopez, the man who was at the wheel of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio that hit four Royal Palm high school students as they waited for their bus last week, killing two of them.
According to warrants obtained by our news partners at WPTV NewsChannel 5, sheriff’s deputies found over two dozen prescription medicine bottles in Lopez’s car at the time of the crash though none of them were narcotic based.
Witnesses said Lopez was ‘disoriented’ and ‘stumbling’ when he got out of his car in the moments following the accident.
Deputies also saw what they described as signs of ‘impairment’ which included slow movements and trouble maintaining his balance.
Lopez has not been arrested nor charged with any crimes stemming from the incident.
Four Royal Palm Community High School students waiting for their bus were struck by Lopez when his car went over a curb along Crestwood Boulevard South near Cypress Lake Drive last Tuesday morning.
Two of the students, a boy and a girl both age 15, died after the crash. Two other boys, ages 16 and 17, have been released from the hospital and are recovering from their injuries.
The investigation continues.
