A dog in North Carolina now has a new home after he was abandoned at an animal shelter because it’s previous owner believed he was gay.
The Stanly County Animal Shelter reported that the dog named Fezco, was dropped off to the shelter because it’s owners witnessed it “hump” another male dog.
The dog who is between the ages of 4 and 5-years-old has since been adopted by a gay couple in Charlotte, N.C.
Steve Nichols and his partner John who adopted Fezco told reporters that they know what it’s like to be subjected to hatred.
They told WCCB, “We’ve been subject to that kind of bigotry and ignorance throughout our lives together, and we couldn’t always do anything about it. We looked at each other and said, ‘We can do something about this.'”
His name has since been changed to “Oscar,” in honor of the gay Irish poet Oscar Wilde.
Animal experts have stated that humping for a dog is not sexual in nature, but a way to assert dominance.
