
MARTIN COUNTY, FL– Two Martin County Sheriff’s Deputies are lucky to be alive after another driver slammed into the back of their patrol vehicle.
The incident occurred on Florida’s Turnpike near mile marker 133 Thursday night.
Authorities say they were parked off to the side of the road investigating a crash when a distracted driver slammed into the back of one of the patrol vehicles and caused that vehicle to hit another patrol vehicle.
The distracted driver’s vehicle then burst into flames.
According to the report, one of the deputies was outside of the vehicle at the time of the crash and was able to avoid any injuries.
A second deputy was inside of the vehicle and was taken to an area hospital for precautionary reasons.
The distracted driver and the driver of the first accident were treated for minor injuries.
