
A suspect has been shot during a planned police operation in Broward County.
Officials say the incident began near the Walmart at 2500 W Broward Blvd., on Thursday.
“Shortly before noon today, Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives from various units were working a planned operation when they attempted to take a suspect into custody in Central Broward,” said Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokeswoman for BSO.
Witnesses say they noticed officials following the suspect out of the Walmart as the suspect ran into the parking lot, jumped in a vehicle and drove away.
Authorities continued to follow the suspect in the area of Northwest 27th Avenue when the suspect jumped out of the vehicle and ran.
Officials then opened fire.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital.
Deputies are asking drivers to avoid the area.
