A couple is facing child abuse charges after they reportedly left their young children in a hotel room alone while they ate dinner at one of the hotel’s restaurants.

The incident was reported on July 1st at The Breakers Palm Beach.

According to the report, hotel staff entered the room of 32-year-old Tatiana Newell and 36-year-old Joseph Newell around 9:00 p.m. to clean when they noticed two young children sleeping in two cribs.

The staff then contacted police after realizing that the children, who appeared to be around the ages of one and two-years-old, where in the room without supervision.

One of the parents returned to the room at 9:30 p.m., after they were contacted by hotel’s security manager.

The couple told police that they put the children down for a nap around 9:00 p.m. and then went to the restaurant. They also reported that despite the children being in the room alone, they had a baby monitor that sent notifications to their cellphones.

Police and hotel staff, however, indicated that at least one of the cribs was covered with a black out curtain which would make it impossible to monitor the child with a baby monitor.

The Newell’s are now facing two counts of cruelty toward child-abuse child without great bodily harm.
