
Officials in Escambia County, Alabama are reporting that they have arrested a corrections officer after the officer opened fire on two people while attending an adult birthday party.
The shooting was reported on Saturday around 9:00 p.m. outside of a home on McMurphy Lane.
While several details about the incident are unavailable at this time, authorities identified the gunman as 51-year-old James Scott Lassiter and also confirmed that he works as a correctional officer at the Century Correctional Institution.
A neighbor also told reporters that Lassiter lives in the neighborhood and that alcohol was involved.
Both victims where taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
As of now, the victim’s names have not been released.
Authorities say they took Lassiter into custody at 11:00 p.m. after a K-9 officer located him.
Lassiter has since been booked into the Escambia County, AL Detention Center in Brewton.
