A City of Miami police officer has been taken into custody after he was caught driving under the influence and in possession of cocaine. 32-year-old Jeffrey Jose Marcano was taken into custody on Sunday following an internal affairs investigation: “The Miami PD Internal Affairs Anti-Corruption Unit, following a tip of possible wrongdoing by one of our members, began an investigation into the activities of one of our officers . . .The integrity of Miami PD will not be compromised by anyone that would act in a manner that brings dishonor to our department, erodes public trust, and tarnishes the badge.”

Authorities say Marcano was surveilled driving to a restaurant called D-Dog House in Brickell where he consumed several alcoholic drinks despite driving a marked police vehicle. He then left the restaurant while “staggering and swaying” on his way to the car. Investigators approached the vehicle in an effort to prevent him from driving away. Marcano took two small bags containing a white substance out of his pockets and dropped them on the ground while putting his hands behind his back. Officials say Marcano, an eight-year veteran, has been suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the investigation. He also faces DUI and drug charges.
