A 9-year-old girl is recovering from a gunshot wound after she was shot by a store owner while waiting for the Easter bunny.
The incident was reported inside the Mall of Victor Valley in California on April 12th.
Authorities say the co-owner of Sole Addict opened fire on would-be shoplifters inside the store but accidentally shot the child.
The owner, identified as Marqel Cockrell, fled the scene but was captured by the Nevada Highway Patrol hours later.
The child was flown to Loma Linda Medical Center to undergo surgery on non-life-threatening wounds.
After spending two days in the hospital, she was released in good condition.
The child’s grandmother told reporters that the child’s arm was shattered by three bullets and will remain in a brace while the bones heal.
Cockrell is now facing five counts including assault with a firearm and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.
His bail is set at $250,000.
