A 6-year-old child has died after he was struck by a pickup truck while walking to school.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of  Wednesday in Auburndale, Florida.

Police say the child was crossing U.S. 92 when he was struck.

The driver reportedly didn’t realize that he hit the child and continued driving until another driver stopped him and told him what happened.

The driver then returned to the scene and is said to be cooperating with the police.

While authorities were at the scene, the child’s father came by and was informed on what happened.

The incident is still under investigation.
