Officials in Nebraska are reporting that a child on vacation with his family has died after the roof of a hotel collapsed on top of him.
The incident occurred on July 3rd at the Hampton Inn at 309 West David Drive.
According to the report, the child was inside of the hotel’s indoor pool when the roof partially collapsed into the pool and along the walkway.
Several people were evacuated from the area, however, the child remained trapped under the debris inside of the pool.
“Responders were able to locate a juvenile male who was trapped inside the pool room beneath debris. This male was determined to be the only trapped person and was found to be deceased,” the York Police Department said.
No other injuries or deaths were reported.
According to local news stations, about 40 guests were relocated to other area hotels.
The Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office and the York Police Department are investigating the cause of the collapse.
