Officials in Delray are reporting that a child was bitten by a shark while standing in shallow water at a Delray Beach.

The incident was reported on Monday around 4 p.m. near S. Ocean Boulevard in Highland Beach.

According to the report, the child told investigators that he was standing in shallow water when he saw  a small shark dart toward him.

The shark was said to have bitten him on his right foot before it swam away.

First responders worked to bandage the child’s foot before taking him to Bethesda Hospital for more treatment.
