(CORNING, CA)– A 32-year-old man has been arrested after he reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail in the direction of several police officers.
The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Fourth Street.
The Corning Police Department reported that several officers went outside of the police station to investigate a loud banging noise.
Once outside, authorities spotted the suspect now identified as Cassidy Russ, “fumbling with an item near the front of his waistband.”
Authorities gave Russ several verbal commands, but Russ ignored them.
Russ then lit a Molotov cocktail and threw it toward at least one officer.
The explosive missed the officer and exploded near a parked vehicle.
The suspect then walked away from the scene and towards Solano Street.
Authorities sent the bomb squad after Russ, however, it was an off-duty officer who tackled and subdued the suspect.
Russ was taken to the Tehama County Jail where he is facing several charges, including attempted murder, possession of an explosive device, arson, battery on a peace officer, and resisting arrest.
Authorities also reported that this is not the first time Russ has targeted authorities with Molotov cocktails. There is a warrant out for his arrest from an incident in July where Russ used the same methods to target officers.
