Buccaneers QB Blaine Gabbert helped rescue 4 after helicopter crash off Davis Islands

(TAMPA, FLA) — Tampa Bay backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert helped save a family of four after a helicopter crash off of the Davis Islands trapped them inside the submerged chopper Thursday evening.

A tour helicopter transiting four people crashed into the water close to the Davis Islands Yacht Club after attempting to make an emergency landing at the Peter O. Knight Airport at around 5.p.m. Thursday, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Tampa police Lt. Daniel College said the helicopter experienced engine failure and lost power towards the end of the tour, prompting it to land in the water.

Bystanders consisting of two jet skiers, marine officers, and Bucs QB Gabbert, helped to save the family involved in the crash.

All four victims were reportedly unharmed.
