Broward woman arrested after her son overdosed to be reassigned from teaching position

Broward County, FL– A Broward County woman who was arrested on Monday after investigators found that her 1-year-old son died from a fentanyl overdose, will be reassigned from her teaching position at a local high school.
30-year-old Shaneka Dean along with her son’s father 30-year-old Wendy Previl were taken into custody following an investigation into the death of their son.
Officials say they were called to a home in Deerfield Beach on Sept. 24 due to a child suffering a medical emergency.
The infant was taken to an area hospital where he died.
Months after the child’s death, authorities determined that the child died from a lethal combination of drugs including fentanyl.
Authorities say both Dean and Previl “failed to provide the care, supervision, and services necessary, ” and took them into custody for aggravated manslaughter of a child and possession of fentanyl.
After learning of Dean’s arrest, the Broward School Board released a statement saying they are taking the appropriate actions:
“The District is aware of the arrest and will take appropriate actions. The employee will not be working with students.”
Dean was a language arts teacher at Boyd Anderson High School.
